Slowly, Spring

Spring rises late this year,
like an old lady still
winter-worn and weary,
waiting for warmth and
bursting with eighty degrees of energy
for only a few days before
sinking back to snow-covered slumber.

Dreaming daffodils, troubled by tulips,
she wakes again and heads out
into the garden, greeted by green and
ready for another season even if
her joints stiffen in still-chilly nights.
